[Essay 13] Task 2, Essay - Doctors (amended, with teacher's comment)

Essay - MODERN SOCIETY

Nowadays doctors can become very rich. Maybe they should not focus on profitable activities such as plastic surgery or looking after rich patients but rather concentrate more on patient's health, no matter how rich or poor they are?

In today's world it is not uncommon for doctors to be incredibly rich just because they are in the medical profession. Their skills and knowledge should definitely be rewarded with high salaries but I am inclined to believe that it is more important for them to be committed to their patients and their health problems.

Undoubtedly, people with great medical knowledge should be highly paid. To possess that level of education requires a lot of sacrifice. It is widely known that medical students spend years studying day and night to get their medical degrees. In addition, after their 5-years of studies they have to spend a few more to gain their medical specialization. When they are educated and qualified enough, they usually have to work in a highly stressful atmosphere. For example, in intensive care units stress levels are extremely high.

All the above-mentioned reasons prove that in general doctors should be paid well, nevertheless, all medical specialists should always put their patient's health first even when sick people do not have enough money to pay for advice or medical treatments. All doctors take the Hippocratic oath to help and serve people, not to earn as much money as possible. Focus has to be on the patient, not his money. Doctors should not choose their profession based on profits but because of a real desire to help others.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that doctors should focus more on helping people than on money and benefits. There is nothing more important than health and this is why doctors should lead an exemplary life.
