[Essay 16] IELTS Task 2: Essay - Shopping (Discussion essay)

Essay - Shopping (Discussion essay)
Shopping has developed from a necessary activity to a kind of entertainment. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this development? Give reasons for your answer and examples from your own knowledge and experience.

To spend our spare time doing shopping has been a dream for countless years, especially in Poland. Some people think, that nowadays it is rather a form of entertainment.

[DISADVANTAGES]
Undoubtedly, there are some disadvantages to such shopping development. Firstly, people who think about shopping in context of entertainment, spend more money on it. For example, after a few hours in shopping malls, ladies purchase too many unnecessary things. In addition, this is an indoor activity, which cannot be as healthy as an outdoor one. Besides that, it has been proved that air conditioning, which is in all shopping centres, can cause respiratory problems.

[ADVANTAGES]
Nevertheless, there are many advantages of treating shopping as an entertainment. Firstly, people spend more money and that means they pay taxes, which in general is good for their country. Additionally, they have a possibility to spend time with their friends and sometimes even with their family. Nowadays it is not uncommon to see the whole family in a hypermarket.  Furthermore, by purchasing and using new items consumers have a chance to learn something new. Finally, shopping can give you a real fun and sometimes even make you happy.

Nowadays shopping can really entertain people. Without any doubt I fully agree with this viewpoint. I really like going out and buy things. For many people this is the best way of spending their time at weekends.
